Goals of the interships

  • As our team continues to grow and our developments advance in both Toulouse and Turin, we are seeking motivated engineering interns to support the Grenat program, the first large-scale cryogenic autophage rocket. You’ll work on one of two objectives:
  • Developing a small-scale hybrid autophage engine derived from our Ambre rocket, focusing on performance optimization for future launcher applications.
  • Prototyping a propellant feeding system, for both the liquid oxidiser and the solid fuel grain.

Mission and Responsibilities

  • Your internship could take place in one of these fields :
  • Systems engineering: you will take part in the architectural design and trade-offs of the core system powering the autophage launcher, evolving toward managing the technical requirements and interfaces between all subsystems. You will take part in integrating the results of both projects above in the development logic of the launcher, and in day-to-day management of the requirements of these projects. Experience in complex systems design is appreciated.
  • Mechanical design: the insertion system is submitted to a complex mechanical load case including unusual contact types such as a lubricated threading in cryogenic temperature. The mission includes the development of a functional propellant feeding mechanism for the launcher and evolves toward optimizing its mass. Mechanical and thermal analysis skills including FEM are desired.
  • Cryogenic Fluid line development: LOX is used to sustain the combustion of the solid fuel, as well as lubricate the mechanical assembly, and cool components. This entails a complex fluid line to address all the functions. Skills in fluidic design, pressure loss calculation, CFD, or cryogenic test bench design are desired.
  • Thermal analysis: part of the objectives of the hybrid engine project is to survive long burns. The design, simulation, analysis after firing tests, and iteration of the combustion chamber for both performance and thermal resilience are central steps. You will perform the numerical calculations to trade-off engine configurations and do the critical design of the hybrid rocket engine. Skills in thermodynamics, thermo-mechanical simulation and hybrid propulsion modelling are desired.
  • You will join an agile team in a fast evolving project and you will participate in all development activities from preliminary design to testing your hardware.

Profile

  • Enrolled in the last year of master’s degree or engineering school, you have a passion for everything related to rocket propulsion.
  • You demonstrate a high academic level and you wish to apply your knowledge in hands-on real world problems.
  • You have worked on rocketry projects in the past, and you wish to design the next generation of engines.
  • You possess a professional level of English. Knowledge of French or other languages will be recognised.
  • Any previous experience in the related field will be positively regarded.
